Valve has announced the release of their own OS called SteamOS, as one of their three big announcements of the week. Based off Linux architecture, the operating system will be free and focuses on “living-room machines,” a continuation of the “TV-friendly gaming PC” concept they began with the implementation of Big Picture last year. Some big ticket features offered with SteamOS include the ability to stream games on your existing PCs or Macs over your home network, as well as individual achievement tracking through Family Share.
SteamOS will be available “soon” as a free download.
The time of the next Valve announcement can be tracked here on the announcement page.
