World of Warcraft Loses 1.3 Million Subscribers

Activision Blizzard reveals that during the first quarter of this year World of Warcraft has lost 1.3 million of its subscribers, primarily from the East but some from the West as well. Despite this loss, WoW still holds the #1 spot, in terms of subscriptions, at 8.3 million as of March 31st, 2013.

I personally don’t see this as a major detriment to the MMO. Considering its age, World of Warcraft is still doing remarkably well. With how far along in terms of content it is in addition to the frequency of new MMOs being released, new subscribers may be very difficult to acquire, but the constant updates of new content is enough to convince many older players to remain or return to Azeroth.

Do you think this is bad news for Activision Blizzard? Let us know in the comments below!
